The Handler:
- The Handler shall be neatly attired with a white shirt and black (dark coloured) pants - A Handler shall be deemed to be incorrectly attired if his/her dress displays any matter capable of being construed as advertising for any farm - The Handler should be ready with the Chief Steward 10 minutes before he/she is supposed to enter the ring with the animal in the specific class - Alpaca’s that would not be ready to enter the ring in time could be disqualified by the Judge or Chief Steward - Follow the instructions of the Judge and Chief Steward - Every Exhibitor or Handler of alpacas at the show shall behave respectfully towards the Judge, Show officials, other persons involved in alpaca classes and the general public during the show - The Handler should not try to influence the Judge when judging the alpaca - The Handler should take care he/she knows all information about the alpaca before entering the ring. It is important to know how old the animal is (in months) and what has been the last shearing date
The alpaca / judging:
- Presentation : the alpaca should be presented in paddock condition. Brushing or washing the alpaca is not recommended. - Take care of the nails of the alpaca before bringing it into the ring - Alpacas should be trained to be led on halter and stand for the judge to examine teeth, fleece and conformation. Unruly alpacas can be disqualified or placed lower if the Judge cannot examine them properly - All alpacas shall have correctly fitting halters and lead line - All alpacas registered for the show need a microchip and health declaration signed by the vet. Before bringing the alpacas to the show they need all required vaccinations. If microchip or health declaration is missing, the alpaca can be disqualified. - The fleece length for a huacaya alpaca is between 5 – 15 cm. For a suri alpaca a minimum of 7.5 cm is required. An animal with over-long fleece may also be downgraded. - Young animals, not shorn yet, do not require a maximum fleece length - Alpaca judging will be scored : 60% fleece, 35% conformation and 5% presentation
Colour definitions:
- The alpacas will be divided into following colour classes : white, light fawn, med./dark fawn, brown, grey and black - A solid coloured alpaca is one that has e single coloured fleece, essentially uniform. One or at most two patches or spots of contrasting colour not more than 50 mm (2 inches) at their largest dimension will not disqualify the alpaca from its class so long as only one such area is located in the blanket. Any further variations or additional coloured areas will cause the alpaca to be classed as a multi-coloured alpaca, which are not allowed to participate in the show.
Classes:
- The alpacas will be combined in classes based on colour, age and sex. In every class the Judge is allowed to award the alpacas with a first, second and third prize. In case the quality of the alpaca is not sufficient to be awarded with a prize, the Judge is allowed to reject awarding - After the judging of the individual classes, the Judge will award a Champion and Reserve Champion for every colour class. For suri’s there will be a overall Champion and Reserve Champion. - From all colour Champions and Reserve Champions the Judge will award the Reserve Champion and the Grand Champion of the show.
Miscellaneous:
- It is allowed to present your farm by placing brochures at the animal boxes - It is not allowed to fix banners or big advertising material at the boxes - It is allowed to inform the public about the animals genetics by fixing some pictures etc. at the boxes - It is not allowed to put advertising material in which is mentioned that the animals are for sale
